Providing the care your body, mind, and spirit deserve on your journey.
Hi, I’m Beth Johnson (she/her), owner of Worth Beginning Wellness (WBW). Thank you for visiting my website. It’s nice to virtually meet you! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’ve been working in the mental health field for over 22 years and am passionate about assisting people in navigating crises in their lives along with the constant change and evolution we all experience. My therapeutic intervention style is influenced by my core belief that each person has access to powerful answers and strengths within themselves. My role is to help you discover, release, and develop these strategies by providing a safe space for healing. I also believe in the healing power of humor and play which I use as tools in my practice.
I work with individuals, families, and couples, focusing primarily on ages teenagers to adults. I have experience working with a diverse range of people from all walks of life and all are welcome here! Social work is at the heart of my being and I am an advocate for those who are marginalized and disenfranchised, always seeking equity for all. I have spent my career working in service first as a Durham Police Officer, then as a foster care social worker, and finally as both a School Social Worker here in Wake County and as a therapist. All of these avenues have provided my experience and insight into the world of trauma and how the body, mind and spirit respond to life events. I deeply enjoy working with those currently serving in the military, veterans, and their families to address struggles involving deployment, post-combat trauma, PTSD, and moral injury. I also have a passion for working with people within the LGBTQ population. Put simply, I truly enjoy people and supporting them on their journey. Additionally, I thrive when working with couples and families assisting in navigating communication struggles, conflict resolution, and all the ups and downs of growing and changing alongside another human being.
I utilize numerous treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. My “wheelhouse” and most loved modality is Accelerated Resolution Therapy. This modality is used to address trauma and unlock profound healing while reprocessing events and allowing the brain (the strongest organ in the body) to align with us and release body sensations and stored distortions. This is a very specific modality that few practitioners employ and positive healing results are unparalleled. My treatment approach is tailored to address your individual needs using the modalities that will have the most impact on your healing process. We lean into the perspective of curiosity and exploration together without blame, shame or guilt.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my teenage son and our wonderful dogs, Sully and Frankie. I also enjoy traveling, reading a great book on the beach, cooking, and all things Tarheels.
